Nigeria Looks at 2021 for National Carrier to Take to Skies

Written by
Talks on reviving the nation's national carrier have been going on for a number of years. Now it seems that plans will finally be put in place to see this happen. The new national carrier will have a target of 81 routes - comprising 40 domestic, regional and sub-regional and 41 international routes. Abdullateef Aliyu writes in Daily Trust that in 2019, the government budgeted over U.S.$20 million for working capital, despite the suspension of the Nigeria Air project, as well as U.S.$1 million for transaction advisers. In 2020, U.S.$11,9 million was provided in the budget for working capital while in the 2021 Appropriation Bill presented recently by President Muhammadu Buhari, another U.S.$2 million has been provided as working capital for the national carrier. Listed on the ongoing projects' list, Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika said that 10 new airports were also under construction nationwide.
