New campsite to service Gonarezhou NP, Zimbabwe

Lowveld Wanderer is set to open Chimbwedziva Campsite by year end. The camp will be situated west of both Gonarezhou National Park (GNP) and the Runde River in Zimbabwe's Masvingo Province.

Chalets will be able to accommodate 20 guests and there will be a camping space for about 40 people.

The campsite will be solar powered.

Director of Chimbwedziva, Samuel Magwai, says the campsite is on the banks of the Runde River and directly opposite the park, to which guests will have easy access.

“Chalets will be built in a traditional Shangani way, using ethnic materials such as poles, special soils and thatching grass. Everything we will use is environmentally friendly. Construction of ablution facilities and setting up of water tanks will start next month. Soon after this guest with their own tents can make use of the campsite while the construction of chalets progresses,” says Magwai.

Gonarezhou is part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park (GLTP), which also includes South Africa’s Kruger National Park and Mozambique’s Gaza National Park. GLTP is home to more than 500 species of birds, 147 species of mammals, at least 116 species of reptiles, 34 species of frogs and 49 species of fish
