International brand, Hilton Hotels, announced yesterday (October 1) that it was on track to double its presence in Africa over the next five years.
Speaking before the opening of the Africa Hotel Investment Forum in Nairobi, Hilton’s CEO, Chris Nassetta, said: “We continue to innovate in Africa with new brands and products.” He said the brand planned to open eight hotels across Africa in the next year, including the new Legend Hotel Lagos Airport, the company’s first Curio Collection by Hilton property in Africa.
Three new properties will fall under the Hilton Garden Inn brand, which appeals largely to the middle-income market. The eight properties will be the first of 16 planned Hilton Garden Inns in Africa over the next five years with destinations including Uganda, Malawi and eSwatini. Other destinations earmarked include Botswana and Rwanda, where the brand does not currently operate. Presently, Hilton has 41 hotels in Africa.
In 2017, the Hilton Africa Growth Initiative was launched, which, through an investment of US$50 million, seeks to support the conversion of existing hotels across the continent to Hilton brands. Over the next five years, Hilton hopes to secure 100 properties, with an estimated 15 to 20 000 rooms, to add to its portfolio.
