This year not only did Singita Grumeti in Tanzania scoop the coveted 1st position as Top Hotel in the World for the second consecutive year, but South African sister lodges, Singita Kruger National Park secured the 7th spot, followed by Singita Sabi Sand in the 10th position in the Travel + Leisure 2012 World's Best Awards list of Top 100 Hotels overall - in what is generally considered as 'the world's most prestigious readers' poll'.
Singita first scooped up the number one 'Best in the World' position in the Top 100 Overall category in 2004. Since then the company has been voted as a favourite by Travel + Leisure readers each and every year. After the first-time win in 2004 (Best Hotel in the World), Singita scored first place rankings in 2006, 2008, 2011 and again this year, 2012. Furthermore Singita has been voted in the No. 2 best position overall in the world, three different times.
Being recognized in this way has an important impact on tourism in Africa, as Singita founder and CEO Luke Bailes comments: 'We need to ensure that there is a pristine and authentic environment for travellers to experience for many years to come. Singita's philosophy of protecting and preserving large tracts of wilderness for future generations will be magnified more and more as unspoiled parts of the world continue to shrink or disappear completely in the face of population growth. We couldn't be more grateful for the support of friends and travellers who are acknowledging our efforts.'
